First signs of spring and a walk in the country

We visited one of our favorite places in Belgium this weekend, and I was overjoyed to see the first signs of spring. The sun was shining and the snowdrops were blooming. It wasn’t warm by any stretch of the imagination, but it felt great to get OUT. Out of Brussels and out of doors.

Snowdrops and sunshine!

Gaasbeek castle is located in the Flemish countryside just outside of Brussels. It’s surrounded by a forest of beech trees, and a park with many walking paths, lakes and historical buildings.

The castle and grounds are surrounded by small farms and the rolling, green hills of Flemish Brabant. Tiny cobblestoned streets wind through postcard villages and weekends find everyone in the market square. Cyclists whiz by in a pack while horses and sheep graze lazily in their pastures. This is what I love best about Belgium.
