Around Belgium: The Japanese Garden in Hasselt

A Japanese cherry tree in full bloom.

If you’re touring the Benelux this spring, don’t forget a trip out to Limburg province to visit one of Belgium’s lesser-known gardens. The Japanese garden in Hasselt boasts 2.5 hectares of shaded walkways, waterfalls, colorful maples and in April, cherry blossoms. It’s a peaceful spot to spend a warm afternoon admiring the season’s many shades of pink. The garden is open from April to October, Tuesday to Sunday. Entrance is€ 5 for adults.
